New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has strongly condemned the shooting incident at an Islamic center in San Diego, calling it a hate-driven attack against Muslims.
In his statement, Mamdani said he was deeply shocked upon hearing about the attack and extended his condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims.
He noted that early reports suggest the incident may have been motivated by anti-Muslim sentiment, warning that Islamophobia is increasingly putting Muslim communities across the country at risk.
The mayor stressed the need to actively confront Islamophobia and stand united against fear and divisive politics. He also confirmed that security has been increased around mosques and Islamic centers in New York City to ensure the safety of worshippers.
