Islamabad: A historic peace agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland, in a ceremony hosted by Pakistan, aimed at establishing a permanent ceasefire and promoting peace in the Middle East.

The agreement, brokered through diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and Qatar, has received widespread international support. The official signing ceremony for the initial agreement between Washington and Tehran will take place in Geneva on Friday.

US President Donald Trump is unlikely to attend the ceremony.

According to reports, the United States will be represented by Vice President JD Vance. Iran is expected to be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, although Iranian authorities have yet to make a final confirmation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to depart for Geneva on Thursday along with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other federal ministers, will also accompany the Pakistani delegation.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that a new round of talks between Iran and the United States would begin in Switzerland on Friday.

However, ahead of the Geneva agreement ceremony, Araqchi warned that the conflict cannot be considered fully resolved until Israeli forces withdraw from Lebanese territories occupied during the war.

He expressed hope that the agreement would help restore stability in the region, stressing that all parties must fulfill their commitments and avoid actions that could undermine the peace process.

The agreement was first announced on Monday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who stated that Washington and Tehran had agreed to a permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Shortly afterward, US President Donald Trump confirmed the development in a social media statement, saying that the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been finalized.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani also welcomed the breakthrough, thanking Pakistan and all regional and international stakeholders who contributed to creating conditions conducive to the agreement.

Although both countries have confirmed some key points of the deal, several important aspects remain unclear, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the long-term implementation mechanism of the agreement.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance stated during a television appearance that the United States and Iran had already digitally signed the memorandum of understanding.

According to Vance, he and President Trump signed the memorandum on behalf of the United States, while Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf signed on behalf of Iran.
