Islamabad: India may have sealed a comfortable win over Afghanistan national cricket team, but one of the biggest talking points after the match was the emergence of young fast bowler Gurnoor Brar.
The youngster drew glowing praise from India captain Shubman Gill, who highlighted Gurnoor’s pace, swing and composure under pressure as key factors behind India’s dominant performance.
“Very impressive upfront,” Gill said after India secured a 1-0 lead in the series. “The way Gurnoor bowled, the pace he generated, and the way he was swinging the ball, especially the lengths he kept hitting consistently, was brilliant.”
For many fans, the spell served as an introduction to a bowler who is quickly building a reputation for attacking cricket with the new ball. Gurnoor’s ability to move the ball early and maintain disciplined lines immediately troubled Afghanistan’s top order, giving India early momentum.

Gill’s praise also reflected the growing confidence the Indian camp has in its emerging pace attack. Alongside Gurnoor, fellow youngster Harshit Rana also impressed by recovering strongly after an expensive opening over. According to Gill, India’s bowlers showed maturity by sticking to aggressive plans rather than becoming defensive after conceding boundaries.
The match also underlined how India are reshaping their approach to the middle overs in one-day cricket. Gill explained that team discussions have focused heavily on maintaining pressure during that phase, both with the ball and while batting.
India executed that strategy perfectly. After controlling Afghanistan through disciplined bowling in the middle overs, Gill anchored the chase with an unbeaten 84 off 66 deliveries. Support from Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul ensured the chase never slipped away.
But while Gill’s innings sealed the victory, much of the post-match attention centered on Gurnoor’s breakthrough performance. In a team already packed with star names, the young pacer showed he has the skills, and perhaps the temperament, to become India’s next fast-bowling success story.
For Indian cricket, constantly searching for new pace talent, Gurnoor’s emergence may be more than just one impressive spell. It could be the beginning of something much bigger.
